Steven Greydanus (a faithful Catholic) has a review of Broke back Mountain on his Decentfilms site.. As things go, it is rather a pleasant surprise; he declares the work to be non-polemical and a work of art, rather than mere agitprop. It portrays opposing views respectfully rather than turning them into caricatures. Surprisingly there is no nudity in the homosexual sex scenes. Overall the film is more nuanced than other films such as The Magdalene Sisters. It's still largely objectionable, however.
Oooooh.... No nudity in the gay sex scene? Oh, well that's ok then, isn't it?
No, wait. It's still disgusting filth. I don't buy that "it's all for art" crap. The USCCB review was even worse than this one.

Who said it was ALL for art? Yeah, it has a message...then again, what good movie doesn't?
Let me ask you a question...do you think the play "The Crucible" is art? Not only does it have a strong message against past actions of Christians, the main character is an adulterer. And yet the play is one of the American all-time great works of dramatic art.
In "Equus", one character is an idolator. The main character, a doctor, grows to sympathize with and even envy the boy's idolatrous faith. Message? Forcing people to conform to one ideal is immoral and wrong. Once again, one of the all-time greats of the theater, a landmark in surrealism, (and a Pulitzer and Tony winner).
