A majority of Americans believe in angels (overall, 81%), though apparently a non-trivial number of Catholics do not. (The Protestants beat us in that department.) Gotta love these percentages of people who believe something totally contrary to the essence of the faith they profess.
Also, the article says: "91 percent of whites believed in Santa as a child; 72 percent of minorities did. One quarter of those now living in households with incomes under $25,000 did not believe in Santa."
I despise the current Angel craze. There are tons of "I believe in angels" bumnper stickers and throw pillows, etc. out there. A lot of people don't believe in them correctly.
For instance - at a New Members class in New Jersey at an A/G church, one potential member replied adamantly that she believed in angels during the class. Now keep in mind, the A/G isn't strict at all when it comes to membership - it's all about you becoming familiar with local church and the fundamental teachings of the denomination. So she then proceeds to tell us all that she believe she is an angel.
The problem is that people think they are angels when they do good things. They have no concept of exactly what an angel is, does and where it came from. Nice people on the street who do good deeds are not, usually, angels. Well, they're NEVER angels if they are earthly people. Many times a real angel will become a person on the street for a brief time to do "their work" and then be gone. But you can't, for example, give the key to the city to an angel.
