School bans sex while roommates are present

Tufts University, responding to some complaints from students, banned student sex in the presence of roommates.

Is this how far we've fallen that universities have to make explicit that it's inappropriate to have sex in front of your roommate when they object? Of course, it's inappropriate to have sex in front of your roommate anyway, and for that matter inappropriate to have sex when not married, but the fact that students complained that their roommates were having sex in front of them just leaves me aghast.

When I was on my honeymoon in Halifax, Nova Scotia I read an editorial from some sicko in the local Halifax newspaper haranguing the college for enacting this legialation. But he was coming at it from a different angle than you Eric. He said that the roommate "getting some" should have preference and the other roommate has the responsibility to vacate or tolerate the act and ideally should be applauding the success of his or her roommate. It made my stomach turn.

Yes, even though it is nauseating and almost humiliating to be part of a culture that must have their schools formally ban this, it is absolutely necessary. Most people these days have less than NO sense of decency and if this thing is not enforced to protect the minority of those people that do have some dececy, the minority will be abused violently.
