I haven't forgotten about the blog, just been too busy (I am arguing with some friends over my lack of exercise, and I argue that I'm too busy to exercise, and recently I've been too busy not only to exercise but to even post to the blog or for that matter open my snail mail). So we'll see how it goes ... Since it prevented today's blog post (feel guilty, Dan?) I may as well say that tonight I spent my time bottling some wine I had made with Worm. Six more months and it will be ready to partake of. Now if I can only keep my first floor cool enough during the summer.

Meanwhile, two notes: 1) Less than three weeks of Lent left — hooray!; 2) Daylight Savings Time starts this weekend. A harbinger of spring! But don't miss church.

I know I've been neglecting the blog of late, and I apologize. News stories, or any topics for blogging, have not been as easy to come by. I should do more digging when topics don't present themselves as I'm accustomed to. Anyway, I intend to do better.

I am back, was out of town for the weekend (wedding of a close friend) and had planned on doing some blogging but thanks to my nefarious rabbit my notebook power supply cable shorted out, then I couldn't remember my username and password for the blog to access it from a public computer. (These automatic password programs are nice but you can forget your passwords when you are elsewhere.)

I was in St. Paul, MN and got to experience the detour around the I-35 bridge collapse without even realizing why it was there. I had totally forgotten that the bridge collapse was in Minneapolis. In another irony, I passed by the restroom where Sen. Larry Craig was nicked and didn't realize that at the time either. Weird weekend.

I got home and had time for one more peach harvest. Filled up my remaining half-pint jars and canned them. Dehydrated a few as well. I feel fulfilled even though I have about three one-pint jars left. (I'm not going to eat a full pint of peaches at a time so I'm less interested in those. Theoretically I could fill them to make cobbler but it doesn't seem likely I'll do that.) That leaves me with 6 1/2 pints (one jar failed to seal due to my neglecting to wipe it, and after inadverently blowing the syrup to kingdom come in the microwave in my attempts to reseal it, I opted to throw the contents in the dehydrator instead.)

Ok, well enough belly-button lint stories* for the day ...

*When I started this blog I swore it wouldn't be one of those "I found lint in my belly button this morning" types of blogs you see so often, but it is nice to have an occasional personal element.

Christifideles has been nominated for Best Religion blog at Blogger's Choice Awards! It's now up to you to vote (follow link above). Thank you for your loyal readership!

Blogging will be light through the weekend as I'm going up to New Hampshire, Crawford Notch in particular, this weekend. Have a blessed Memorial Day weekend, and don't forget to recognize what it is we are remembering: The sacrifices of American soldiers. Memorial Day is more than the unofficial first day of summer and day for barbecuing. Pray for the fallen troops. How apropos that the feast of St. Joan of Arc lands on May 30th.

Ok, yes I have been neglecting my blog ... my apologies. Guess I haven't gotten over the holiday vacation yet. Will try to do better.

I'd like to wish all my readers a very blessed Christmas!

Today the Virgin gives birth to the One who surpasses all essences, and the earth offers a cave to God, the Inaccessible One. Angels sing His glory together with the shepherds, for unto us is born a Child who is God from all eternity.

—Kontakion, Nativity According to the Flesh of our Lord, God and Saviour Jesus Christ

I see I'm slipping behind in my postings. Will probably happen over the next week as I'm out of town for Christmas. So use the extra time to enjoy your family ...

Spammers are hitting the site hard right now. To obtain some respite I've temporarily limited comments to authenticated commenters. This is not, for now, intended to be permanent. If we continue to get this volume of spam on a regular basis, however, it may be.

The computer that serves Christifideles took a hit on Friday when its owner was out of town, so that's why we were down over the weekend.

I have lots of stuff to post but not tonight — been geeking out some more. Very tired. Time for bed.

Sorry for the lack of posting of late. No good excuse; I've just been geeking out on a new toy, or really, set of toys. I won't say what it is because I want to wait until all the pieces are in place.

Off camping this weekend so there will be light blogging.

One of the features that Movable Type (our blogging software) lacks that is really useful is the ability to notify commenters that someone replied to their post. No one should be required to keep track of all the blog entries they posted comments in.

Now there is a solution. It's called coComment. coComment allows you to subscribe to any blog comment thread with the click of a bookmark in your browser. You can go to a single page on their site to follow all your conversations. Awesome! And it works with our software (though admittedly I haven't tried it).

If anyone gives it a whirl let me know how it works out.

I was out this past weekend on a holiday camping trip, and forgot to post something ahead of time, so sorry for the lack of posts. Will be resuming posting.

I thought I was keeping up to date but apparently I was behind. It didn't help that I forgot to make visible an article I thought I had posted yesterday. (I back-dated that one when I fixed it.)

I am back, and had a good time with my friend and family. Beautiful weather up in Michigan. I went hiking and biking and golfing and did all sorts of things. Thanks to Caleb and my family for their generous hospitality.

I am going to be out of town visiting our own Caleb and my mother's family as well. I'll have access to the Internet but I can make no promises about how often I'll be able to blog — I will just note that I will make some effort to do so, but not at the expense of courtesy to my hosts of course. I'll be back May 6th.

My friend (and blog commenter) Caleb is in town so I am going to be scarce for the remainder of the week.

There was an issue involving comments posted by unregistered people (which is pretty much all of you save one) and comments delayed for moderation. I never got notice that they required review so they never got posted until someone brought this to my attention. I've turned off this feature since we haven't attracted the wrong kind of attention yet, but I may turn it on as I try to fix the problem.

We have a new version of the site up and running, as you can see, involving a new version of the blogging software, MoveableType. (We've been working on this over the last couple of days, one reason for the lack of updates.) One nice feature is that you can see all posts by category. This version permits you to register (using TypeKey, a shared-authentication system). This will come in handy if we run into spam problems or abuse of the commenting privileges. It also will allow you to save your information more effectively and allow to suppress information you don't want to share. So let me know what you think.

The Library of Congress is going to archive this site, in particular the discussion on John Paul II. How exciting!

Why is everyone so quiet? Did I lose my audience? Am I not being controversial enough? Make me feel useful and comment! And if you enjoy the blog, tell someone else about it.

Thanks to Richard Chonak, the "Save personal info" feature in the comment boxes should work now.

I would like to wish my nascent readership a very blessed Christmas!

Christ is born! Glorify Him!

. . . may we come to share in the divinity of Christ who humbled himself to share in our humanity.
— Roman Missal of Paul VI

Welcome to Christifideles, the blog. This is an adjuct to the Christifideles mailing list that had been maintained on world.std.com. Since blogs seem to have taken over the hearts and minds of the denizens of cyberspace, leaving the mailing list a bit underutilized, I decided to start a blog. To be honest I have no clue how frequently I'll update it; I suspect it will be no more than once a day. But we'll see where the Lord leads it!

(Incidentally, the word christifideles is the Latin term used to refer to all of the Christian faithful.)
